Theme for the Week - Lions
Since lions are such majestic animals and toddlers can identify them easily, we chose that for the theme this week.
Here's a great page from National Geographic with all kinds of fun lion information and activities for kids. Did you know prides range from 3 lions up to 40 lions! The lionesses do all the hunting but the lions still get to eat first. Lions range from 265 lbs to 420 lbs! The mammas tend to all have babies at once so they can help take care of each others' cubs. A daddy lion's roar can be hear up to 5 mils (8 kilometers)
Letter of the Week: L - We haven't featured L all year so here we have it this week. Show them a picture of both a capital L and a lower case l. Draw an L on paper, or use their finger to draw it in the sandbox or dirt. Use bath tub or refrigerator letters to show them this letter as well.
Number of the Week: 8 - When you show your child anything say "8 lemons" and show them a picture of the number 8. Write the number 8 on paper. Show them 8 things at a time and count them - "one, two, three..." - so your child gets used to the pattern.
Songs of the Week: Lion King Songs - From the movie/play. You can choose which ones are your favorites.
Story of the Week: Little Tiger is Loud: A Book About Using Your Inside Voice by Susan Hood
- I don't know about you all but I spend a good amount of time telling my kids to use their inside voice - especially in restaurants. I thought this would be a fun story for others.
Snack of the Week: Lion Snacks - This is a cute idea for making little lion paws from rice crispy treats (you could cut up premade ones...) and a lion face out of Cutie slices and a pancake. Enjoy!
Spanish Words of the Week: lion - el león, lioness - la leona, cub - el cachorro, tail - la cola
Do-It-Myself Activity: Roar - teach your little one by saying "what does a lion say?" - "ROAR!!" They'll love it especially when you do the lion pose (see below).
Craft of the Week: Lion Crafts & Activities - Here is a whole page of fun activities related to lions. I especially like the alphabet activity to learn letters.
Yoga Pose: Lion Pose - VIDEO - This is a fun one because it stretches your neck and the kids can ROAR like a lion while doing it.
Sign Language Sign of the Week: Lion, Tail, Tongue, Roar - If your toddler is still learning how to talk, sign language can be a great way for them to communicate.
Most of all - give your little one a hug and say "I love you" as many times a day as you can think of! You can never give them enough love.
